Community
Since our inception 20 years ago, we’ve believed that our most rewarding work is often done beyond the gates of our job sites — in the communities in which we work. Our passion for building extends past bricks and mortar to the people of these communities.
United Ability Teaching Garden BLHI recently teamed up with United Ability for a hands-on community outreach project. The fence surrounding their teaching garden had become rotten in certain areas, so local employees helped build and install a new one. The teaching garden is an outdoor sanctuary used to grow fruits, vegetables, and flowers, an important part of their program that is used year-round. Having outside time benefits everyone’s health, especially the students of United Ability. The team at United Ability is excited to have a new, functioning fence that allows everyone to enjoy the garden fully. We appreciate what United Ability brings to our community, and it was an honor to be able to provide them with their new fence.
Bush Hills Connection Complex What began as an initiative led by UAB’s Live Healthsmart Alabama turned into an incredible project spearheaded by BL Harbert International employees and numerous partners to enhance a neighboring community. The project included renovations to an old school in addition to repairs of existing sidewalks, building new sidewalks, installation of ADA street ramps, new crosswalks, new landscaping, new street lighting and more.
Cornerstone School Every summer we spend a day with our co-ops and interns in the community showing them a big piece of the BLHI culture, giving back. In the picture shown, our group provided some improvements to a local school. The project included replacing ceiling tiles, repairing bathroom door latches, hanging cubbies, painting and more.
Toys for Tots Many of our jobsites and offices around the world hold toy drives around the holidays. Pictured is our team in New Orleans sharing some of the toys they collected.
Spending Time with Local Veterans The Oxford Office spent time visiting a local veterans home. Each employee paired up with a resident to compete in their popular penny auction, a game that the residents love to play. The team presented gift cards to be used for future shopping needs such as toiletries, clothing and additional items.
Passion for Serving
“I am amazed at the corporate responsibility Harbert has taken on just in my short tenure, but I am also equally amazed at the encouragement for employees to be involved in the community. Personally, I am thankful for the opportunity and encouragement I have at Harbert to give back to my community.”
