The
156,000 sf Colonial Bank Building is located on the former
site of the old Shades Valley High School. The five-story
building has a unique radius design
to enhance its high
visibility at a major highway intersection.
Elaborate
concrete techniques were incorporated in the foundation
stage of
the project to ensure compliance on a difficult and
unstable soil structure. Driven
structural steel piles and poured-in-place concrete pile
caps establish the building’s
column and wall foundations.
To keep the rooftop clear,
all mechanical
equipment
is housed in the basement. An
independent exhaust and ventilation mechanical system
was designed and installed in all break rooms and kitchen
areas. The
interior features durable and efficient finish materials,
including solid cherry wood doors, polished chrome hardware,
crown molding and chair rails. Granite
and stone flooring
is used on the ground floor areas. Imported granite,
stone and pre-cast concrete make up the exterior of the
building.
There is a radius curtain wall glazing system
interfaced with a pre-cast concrete exterior frame to
parallel the adjacent roadways and high
interchange system. CLIENT
