The
Etowah County Jail project involved 60,000 square feet
of additions and alterations to the existing facility in
Gadsden, Alabama.
116 new precast cell units were added, with a fabrication and
erection time of only 16 weeks. The addition necessitated removal
of a portion of the existing EPDM roof, while new concrete
beams were cast to support the precast cells. This posed the
added challenge of working on the existing jail’s roof-top
while the jail remained in complete operation.
The building’s new exterior is EIFS, with a standing
seam metal roof. The project also called for renovation to
the interior—as well as extensive replacement of detention
equipment.
