This
project involved the complete interior and exterior renovation
of an eight-story,
250,000
square foot Class “B” office building into an upscale
Class “A” space. In addition to the building
work, the entire site was reshaped and the existing parking
deck
was renovated.
The “new” First Commercial Bank building is now
a prominent landmark for the Birmingham Community. The project
was complicated by the fact that the building remained occupied
during the renovation. One of the notable tenants was Southern
Company Services, the former owner of the building.
In addition to employees, the lowest floor contained the Power
Control Center, which monitored and controlled electrical service
for a four-state area.
Within the Master Schedule were the Completion Schedules for
over 20 separate tenant suites. Every tenant suite was completed
on time, allowing the move-in of tenants as scheduled.
Bill Harbert International Construction, Inc. (BHIC) was
the contractor of record for the project. In January 2000,
all
employees of BHIC became employees of B.L. Harbert International
(BLHI). The management and supervisory teams now employed
by BLHI constructed the project.
