Based on the success of the initial Honda Manufacturing of Alabama plant, and its ahead-of-schedule completion, Honda Motor Co., Ltd. selected the HHG (Hanscomb-Harbert-Global Performance) joint venture to build their second state-of-the-art automotive manufacturing and assembly plant.

Using an aggressive, fast track schedule, Honda and HHG will have the new assembly line operational twenty one months after groundbreaking. The 1.1 million square foot facility is being built on a 1,350-acre tract of land adjacent to the Phase I plant recently completed by HHG.

The design incorporates Honda’s flexible manufacturing system in which robotics, assembly platforms and key machinery can be interchanged, permitting different vehicle models to be assembled at the same plant.

In addition to the new plant, HHG will oversee the construction of administrative and employee service buildings to accommodate the plant’s additional 1,500 employees, as well as a new Facilities Building (Central Plant). The team is also managing site infrastructure improvements, roadways, parking, and storage and shipping facilities.

HHG is providing comprehensive project and construction management services, including full-time, on-site project managers to oversee all phases of the job. The team began by developing an overall construction plan, including work breakdown structure, contract contents and project objectives.
