Situated between
the Petronas Twin Towers (the world’s tallest buildings),
the Suria Kuala Lumpur City Center project includes construction
of a six-level,
above-ground retail shopping podium covering two million square
feet and a five-story, underground concrete car park covering
70 acres.
The retail podium consists of a structural steel frame with
concrete decks. Skylights cover 50 percent of the roof surface.
Mechanically and electrically, the six levels of the retail
podium are served by 300 ventilation systems providing conditioned
air, general return and smoke exhaust, along with make-up air
and pressurization for smoke management, containment and control.
These systems are capable of producing a combined air flow
of 1 million liters per second.
Harbert Construction (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd was the contractor
of record for the project, which is a wholly owned subsidiary
of B.L. Harbert International.
