Construction
of the 1,000-bed Mental Retardation Offenders Prison (MROP)
Collocation Unit included seventeen
structures totaling 228,500 square feet. The housing units
are cast-in-place concrete units, and house two prisoners
per cell. Each unit is double tier with pre-engineered
metal building roofing systems with central control areas.
The site work package consisted of approximately 70,000 cubic
yards of imported select fill material to be distributed beneath
the various buildings.
Four housing buildings were constructed along with additional
buildings for administration, education, laundry and food service,
maintenance and recreation functions.
Bill Harbert International Construction, Inc. (BHIC) was the
contractor of record for the project. In January 2000 all employees
of BHIC became employees of B.L. Harbert International (BLHI).
The management and supervisory teams now employed by BLHI constructed
the project.
