Last week, BL Harbert International hosted its 2nd annual Forge Your Future Career Day with high school and junior college students who are currently enrolled in a craft trade program. Over 130 students and faculty from all over the state of Alabama came to learn more about our company and what a career in commercial construction has to offer. The event was held at our Servis1st Bank Headquarters project in Homewood, Alabama. Students were able to experience an active job site.
At the event, students had the opportunity to talk with industry experts about different career paths in construction and the benefits the industry as to offer. They heard from various construction personnel who have worked their way up in the ranks and are very successful at what they do. The students were given tours of the job site and took part in small group discussions on welding, carpentry, HVAC and building construction.
Over the years, the construction industry has seen a drastic decline in skilled craftsman entering the workforce. BL Harbert and organizations like ABC and AGC have joined together to promote careers in the industry. We are continually seeking ways to raise awareness of the skilled trade gap and are committed to train the next generation of skilled workers to build anything, anywhere.
