BL Harbert International has been awarded a $66.9M contract from the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center Authority to renovate the Legacy Arena at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex (BJCC) in Birmingham, Alabama.
First constructed in the 1970s, the Legacy Arena renovations will bring the facility up to date with approximately 66,000-sq-ft of new additions and approximately 300,000-sq-ft of renovations to the existing arena and will include enhancements to improve the fan experience, circulation to and within the space, and modernization aimed at the kind of amenities and interactions today’s fans and customers expect including new seats, updated aesthetics, and a rework of food and beverage vendors. Upon completion. The arena will also boast updated loading docks that will help meet the demands for major tours and further strengthen the BJCC’s commercial operations. The main entrance into the arena will be moved to 9th Avenue and 19th Street North.

The Legacy Arena is a part of the larger construction project at the BJCC that also includes the creation of Protective Stadium, which BL Harbert is overseeing as the Construction Manager. The renovation is expected to take around 18 months and is slated for completion in October 2021.
